Flower Of Life was seeking a way to create brand awareness in the Oklahoma cannabis industry without a big marketing budget or storefront. Pre-packaging the flower became the obvious choice not only because it helps spread brand awareness and build a loyal following but also because FOL didn’t want to risk cross-contamination. FOL grows without any synthetic inputs and by packaging the flower, it prevents the medicine from unscrupulous practices. The product is grown and handled with so much care, it made sense to create a protective barrier.
The challenge then, was coming up with a somewhat eco friendly design that wouldn’t create additional waste. The child resistant jars are reusable and recyclable.
When exposed to UV light, the potency of the flower degrades over time. This is how I came up with the kraft box. Every glass jar is neatly tucked in a cardboard box made from recycled materials. It’s also recyclable after use.
With multiple strains of cannabis flower, we needed a way to clearly indicate and label the different types without using multiple stickers to do so. Multiple stickers would increase the cost of the packaging while increasing waste and inefficiency. That’s where I came up with adding a die cut. One sticker on the glass jar that was view-able from the outside.
Finally I needed a creative way to generate leads without a marketing budget and offer transparency into FOL’s growing practices. To do this, I included a QR code which links to a website landing page for patients to download and access the full laboratory test results of every strain. Patients can view potency, cannabinoids, terpene profiles, and safety results. The QR code continues to build trust with patients and enables FOL to build a database of contacts to announce future products and other news.
It was also important we fit all the required warning information onto the packaging. I’ve created flower packaging, tincture packaging, rosin packaging, and pre-roll packaging.
